Karl Peinhardt Home, Germany

Karl Peinhardt left his home in Germany (pictured) for America when the West was being developed and the South was recovering from the Civil War. From New York, he traveled on to Cincinnati where he worked several years. He heard of the new town of Cullman being settled and traveled south, where his descendants remain. Carl Peinhardt, Dairy Farmer

Dairy farming was Carl Peinhardt’s livelihood, but he did include beekeeping later. Carl Peinhardt is shown with a Mr. Alverson, cattle judge, and Promise, the prize dairy cow. Promise, owned by Carl, was named grand champion in a late-1940s dairy competition and shown on Fourth Avenue near D.T. Kinney Mule Barn. (Courtesy Carolyn Peinhardt Johnson.)
